Expert in RTO exhaust gas treatment system
RTO (Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer) has extremely high thermal efficiency. When considering the replacement of oxidants, RTO can greatly reduce the cost of gas for customers, making switching a breeze. Due to its high thermal efficiency, regenerative thermal oxidizers typically enter a “self-sustaining” mode of operation with no need for auxiliary fuel at low concentrations.
Longevity is another major advantage of RTO because the heat exchanger and the combustion zone are lined with refractory insulation. Due to the ceramic media, RTO can achieve high thermal efficiency. Our engineers evaluate each process and use structured media or random wrap in the RTO design to maximize its effectiveness, depending on the most effective application.
How does RTO work?
The RTO consists of two or three towers, which contain specialized hot ceramic materials, and the top is connected by a high temperature combustion chamber and a direct combustion burner.
The components of the RTO consist of:
RTO components include system fans, motors, burners, heat exchange media, flow control valves, electronic automated system controls, temperature loggers, and exhaust stacks. The housing of the system is usually made of ceramic lining and constructed of heavy duty steel.
RTO operation process:
- heating:
The industrial process exhaust carrying VOC and HAP heats the gas to ~1300 °F through a heated ceramic material in a tower. - combustion:
The natural gas burner heats the contaminated air stream from 1300 °F to ~1450 °F, oxidizing all complex carbon solvents to CO2 and water vapor. - Recycling:
The hot gases after combustion pass down the second column, which contains the same radiator ceramic material and recovers 95% of the heat from the burner.
When the first column is cooled and the second column is heated, the direction of the air passing through the column is periodically reversed to recover heat from the RTO burner.
If there is a 3 tower design, the third tower purges a small amount of fresh air into the combustion chamber to prevent any exhaust gases from escaping.
